The Indianapolis N.I.T.E Ride

On June 26, 2010 I did my 1st nite ride.
This event starts at the Major Taylor
velodrome near to Marian University,
my alma mater. The event has grown
from 6 people to 4000 people. The streets
are blocked and police guard the intersections
so it is very protected. It was nice to ride
without fear of being hit but it does start
at 11pm. The route is 20 miles long, and
goes downtown and back. So theoretically
it is over by 1AM. I thought is was fun
till I got my 1st flat tire at mile 14 around
40th and Meridian. With no tools or spare
I had to just wait till the other folks rode
back to their car and could come fetch me.
I was lucky to have a nice lady who let
me stay in the lobby of her apartment
bldg.

It was a very hot humid night with a
beautiful paper moon. There was music
and bicycle races on the velodrome prior
to the start. I tried to get some photos of
the masses of people waiting to start out.

Special thanks to Stan and the other male buddies
for being gentlemen since I was the only lady
in our group. It was fun but I am not sure if
this will be an annual for me. Just too much
waiting around.

Fun and games at the Lakehouse

Last Saturday was a hot one
so we jumped in the water and
had a great time.
Later we fixed a great meal and
then it was time for the games.
Penny is a very creative person
and prizes were awarded to the
winners.

One of the games was a risque
version of pin the tail on the donkey.
The other was a risque version of "ring"
the post.

A good time was had by all.
Notice the nice new screened in porch
which is quite cool and comfortable.

Girlfriend Ride!

This ride took place in Columbus, IN.
It was a fundraiser to help abused women.
At $25 per head they did raise some
funds as they said 750 riders registered.
They had Cindi Lauper's "girls want to have fun" blaring on the loudspeaker. There were 5
in my group. Two did the short ride and the other 3 did the medium ride which was
supposed to be a 25K but ended up being
about a 25Mile.
Hot, humid, no rain, and flat so no problem.
Scenes were mostly cornfields with one
nice stop at a winery with a beautiful
garden.

We bought some fresh corn that had been
just recently picked to take to the lake.
Since we had a nice lake cottage to cool
off at, we finished up at 1pm and headed
to Vanessa's lake house in Cordry.

Jessica's and Matt's wedding

Jessica got married last Saturday in
Zionsville. There was a nasty thunderstorm
after the wedding but that did not dampen
spirits. As you can see everyone had fun.

Barbie is the mother of the bride and
she was looking like a bride herself.

Matt is a med student and Jessica just
graduated from Franklin college and is
enrolled at IU nursing school starting this
fall. There were lots of Jamaican Chinese
in attendance and we danced to our music.

The Gay Parade took place
last Saturday and I went downtown
to check out the scene.
Here are some floats and
some of the people watching.

Below is Amy one of my tennis friend's daughter
who was giving information about the Naptown
roller derby events. She is also associated with
the 1st zip line venue in Indy. She is an architect.

That's me in my zip line helmet.
This little girl was dressed so prettily she
kept getting beads and lots of candy.

Lots of color and skin.
Many politicians paraded as
well as churches and local businesses.
I guess the event is getting very big.
It was followed by music and booths on
the american Legion Mall.
It was very very warm that day.

500 Parade Ride

Some new faces on our Saturday bike rides.
Some old faces and always lunch with beer.

The Butler Team were parade marshalls.
Enjoy some of the Indianapolis skyline

With relatives in town I have been busy and not blogging
too often. Have also been playing USTA tennis matches.

summer time on my lake

Now that the weather is nice and
hot you are all invited to stop by
to take a kayak out or just sit
and admire the views.
Maybe drink a brew or 2.
These were some of my
race day friends who showed up.
