What are we drinking this month?

Of course we always drink red wine.
But the question is which one.
I found this bottle at Trader Joe's
which is my personal Mecca for good inexpensive bottles. So I thought I would
have a feature of the month.
October is definitely
"Chariot Gypsy Red".
It is a blend of red wines made
especially for Joe's. Think Russian
River Petite Sirah, Lodi Zinfandel,
Cabernet and Merlot.
I found this wine to be very flavorful
with a great finish and
at $5.99 per bottle it will
not last too long on the shelf as I
plan to return to get some more.
I hope I am not too late.
I hope I can share a bottle with some
of you very soon.

A Coveted Walk In The Woods

Me in my clam digger jeans and my hiking boots.

A view of the falls.

Theresa flanked by Charles and Johnny - the 3 survivors.
I finally got that coveted fall walk in the woods. I was fortunate to be
in one of God's most beautiful creations and one of Indiana's
best State Parks, Clifty Falls in Madison Indiana. The occasion
was a Kasper family reunion. My husband's mother was a Kasper
and her father came from Germany and settled in Madison
He was a grocer and one of the memories I carry with me was
that he had a pickle barrel and sold pickles for about 2 cents.
My father was a Hakka shopkeeper in Jamaica and we sold things
in miniscule quantities for very little as well, so this memory is
close to home for me. Grandfather Kasper had 3 wives and 12
children of whom only 3 still survive. We went for a hike after lunch
and one of the Uncles made it half way down to the falls.
Way to go Uncle John.
The older I get the more I think about the globality of life and how I
got from where my ancestors were and where I am today.

Enough for a Monday.

What's on The Nightstand?

What's on the nightstand is an attempt to let you know what I am
reading currently. I know I have lots of things on that nightstand such
as the Webster's dictionary and the Holy Bible and lot's of books that
I may have started and some I intend to start. But there is always
one that I hang with and finish. So on top of my pile
is "The Guersey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" co authored
by mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Through a series of letters
to an author, the remarkable tale of the German occupation of the
island of Guernsey during world war 11 unfolds.
The characters spring to life and you will love these offbeat people
who form a book club in adverse times with limited resources.
There is always a vein of humor running throughout.
I would reccomend it.

Great sky in the morning

October 23, 2009

This is my 1st day of blogging. I decided to start after I saw
this beautiful sky from my bedroom window yesterday.
The object of my blogging is to recall these precious
moments of life and share them with others. Today is rainy
and blustery and the leaves are falling too quickly
and I realize that I have not had one beautiful walk
in the woods this fall. My mental note is to change
that before they are all gone and winter arrives.
