Way more than cards!

Sophie is pointer who lives with

Sarah and she is shown here waiting to greet

these new guests who are reputed to be a bit crazy.

Penny and Sarah pose in her newly updated

1st class cherry and granite kitchen. Well

maybe Penny is posing.

Don plays chopsticks while some are moved to dancing.

Maybe it was "When Irish eyes are smiling".

There was some Cole Porter played as well.

Sophie has time for all of us. I think she may be the only
dog who likes me. I remember Jill's dog almost biting me.

Dinner was an italian eggplant capionnata (spelling)

served on polenta, a green salad, focaccio bread followed

by a chocolate cake with triple whipped cream. Penny

had to whip the cream 3 times as it kept falling. It was

either a humidity thing or a brain thing. Lets go for the

1st option.

Meals are always accompanied by bottles of red wine and Stan's boxed wine.

Sarah our hostess smiles at the choice of the wine.

In euchre a winner always sits aligned with the bath tub.
In case this does not happen then you can always bring
your own bathtub.
We are pretty tired of Stan winning all the money
but besides that a perfect evening. Special thanks
to Sarah for hosting.

New and notable inventions!

Stan is a retired engineer who obviously has a lot
of spare time on his hands so he has turned his
talents to new inventions.

This is a bike helmet invented for the Indianapolis
night ride which requires a helmet for participation

Here Penny has taken it one step furthur adding a refreshment center.
We each took turns modeling this innovative invention

Some other uses may be in the coal mining industry
.

How about emergency lights for tornadoes and power outages?

Early School days Jamaica.

The 1st catholic church established in Jamaica was in
1534 and was erected of local stone and was situated
in New Seville which was what the Spaniards named the
area now called Seville in St Ann. I was born about 3
miles from the site. The church was called St. Peter Martyr
and was never completed as the capitol was moved to
Spanish Town and the church fell into ruins during the
British rule. In 1925 a British landowner who then owned the
property gave it back to the Catholic Church and it was
rebuilt and named Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Here is a photo which is exactly as I remember
it in all its quaint ivy covered beauty.

The first pastor here was Father Neil Donahue
a Jesuit priest from of Boston and he established a school
with the help of the Mercy nuns of Cincinnati.
The school was actually called Christopher Columbus High School.

Here is Father Neil in front holding his Panama style
tropical hat which was his trademark. He was introducing
his Chinese congregation to a visiting priest from
China. My aunt Kathleen is in the photo along
with some other relatives. My mother was
still an Anglican and she never became a
Catholic.

This is the church as it looks today.

This was the best school in my town. We had
to pay school fees but compared to the
alternative being offered by government
schools we were fortunate to have these
missionary schools.
These are photos of the school kids. I am the
girl next to the boy in the front row. My
sister Betty is the second to the right in
the front row and my cousin Bunty the little
girl far right next to her. She appears to be
crying.

Our uniform was ecru with maroon ties which
read CCHS. We wore berets and of course brown anklets
and shoes. Father Neil was very proud of the way he had
taken the little natives and taught us to read and write
and on this occasion he was having us perform for some
visiting dignitary from the big city. No doubt it was to
raise funds from the government. Father was always a
big fund raiser. I am dating thiese photos in the very early
1950's. I must have been 7 years old. Do the math.
Father died in Boston in a home for old Jesuit priests and
my cousin Winsome visited him before he passed away
around 1989. She said he remembered and asked about all of
his little kids in St. Ann's Bay.
As I look at the photos, I see doctors, lawyers, entertainers,
entrepreneurs, nurses and pilots. I think father did a fine job.

He had a lot of help from all those Irish nuns who were

sent to the missions. They were all quite young and loving

as I recall them. I think the Mercy nuns may have actually started

in Ireland.

Life's a Holiday on "Penny Lane"!

Life is a holiday on Penny Lane but not all the times/

16 days ago Penny fell off of her ATV and sustained

a head trauma, numerous lacerations, road rash and some

broken toes. She had to be taken by helicopter life line

to be treated at a hospital in Nashville.

She has been recovering for 16 days and I think she has
won the battle. Kathy, Betsy and I were able to visit her to
ascertain that she is well, not too worse for the wear and is
back to her normal self.

We took lunch and a plant.
Penny appreciated all the cards she recieved
from well wishers.

On a sunny day we lunched outdoors on peanut butter soup,
salad, foccacio bread and kit kats.

I was beginning to feel sorry for Penny when she pointed
out her rehab art work featured below. If you can create
this piece your brain is still workng.

She is now into deep pink colors for her flowers.

But Yellow is still her color of choice but the thing about

Penny is that she is totally into color. She is not

afraid of color.

Can we ever recapture a sunny day in April
when we celebrate a friend's recovery and feel
grateful that our friend is well? This was just one
of the best Sunday afternoons that I have spent.
What is missing here? We have lime green,
and hot pink and yellow.

A lavender chair of course. Well here it is.

Pennay is back!

Sunset Photos!

Don't know how many of you have ever attempted sunset photos
and they just never came out quite right. I have always had a problem
with them till yesterday. I just discovered a function on my camera
for "sunset" shots. This was my 1st attempt to utilize that function.
This is not the Caribbean nor the mountains. It was simply me
stopping on 75th street as I was heading west at about 745pm last
night. I think it looks exotic!
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.

A Perfect Day!

A beautiful day gets you out of the house and out of
doing chores. It gets you on the road with your bike
and if you are lucky you have friends who want to
do the same thing. With spring in full bloom it was a day
filled with sights. A great leisurely 23 mile ride to the center
of town via the Monon and back home by the canal tow path
was the 1st group ride of 2010.

Chet likes to pose with the ladies
A new building downtown which is reminiscent of the
Wynn in Vegas. Every area was hopping with people
who wanted to be outdoors.

A view of the redbuds as we approached the Zoo

No ride is complete without big lunches. At the end of the ride the reward is
a stop at the Bruge Cafe and sample their home brewed beers. There is a dark
Guiness stout like one. There is a pilsner type, there is a pale ale and my
favorite was the triple ripple which is like a wheat beer with hints of pear.
There is a limit of 2 on the triple ripple because it is 11% alcohol. We had
several beer connoisseurs in our group. So the question is do we ride for
excercise, food or beer? You be the judge.

Signs of Spring

Spring is the time

when not only a young man's thoughts

turn to fancy. All people's thoughts turn to fancy

or you may experience a feverish state of euphoria.

Whatever happens to you it is a true rebirth,

a new beginning. It's here!

If you are not feeling it go immediately to

a med check.

Ready for spring kayaking.

My favorite reading spot is set. Just add sun.

My phlox is in full bloom.

This is a tulip tree I passed on my way from Avalon Hills.
Below is a yard I saw filled with spring
bulb flowers in a wooded setting.

PoPo Duties!

Being a PoPo is very easy.
You don't have to do diaper duty or
stay up at night when they are sick.
You basically just have to play with them
and be a kid yourself. You just have to make
sure they are safe.

WHEE!
This is more fun than being a parent!
You know I am a big kid at heart.

Faces of Baby D!

On my 3rd visit with baby D, who is now 16 months old,

I only took 172 photos with my camera and about 30 on my

camera phone.

Obviously, I had to be selective with what I post.

He likes hiding under the dining table.

His smiles are very winning.

He likes to swing very high.

He is crazy about his Mom who talks to him and
teaches him many words that he signs. It is amazing
how much he understands. Nouns are the easiest but he
also knows adjectives, verbs and adverbs and even
prepositions.

I thought his t-shirt was cute as it shows a truck and says "kimchee delivery"
Seoul, Korea

This is a typical smile that could melt your heart.
Who could resist?

He loves to read and has an extensive library already.
But right now he is checking out Po-Po's book.

I think this is his inquisitive look.

I liked the way the sunlight was dappling the wood floor here. as
he was coloring his Easter book.

Now, I know you think I am a bragging grandma.
Well, maybe just a wee bit.
He got a grandfather figure in a lego set and he
goes around signing "grandpa" and even gives
the little figure kisses. What we are lacking is
an Asian grandma lego figure. I spent hours yesterday
combing websites for this and have not had any luck.
So if anyone comes up with anything just call me.

About Me

My photo
I am a person who enjoys life and the people I meet along the way. I don't want to miss out on anything so I am not afraid to investigate new experiences.
