Jamaican Chinese hospitality if you are lucky to experience it
goes something like this. Our hostess is Ginny, who is not a blood relative
but someone who went to school with us and socialized with the family.
With just 1 night's notice, she invited all my siblings to spend the
night before my bother Dennis' funeral so we could be together.
She prepared a gourmet meal of peppered shrimps,
oxtail stew with beans, curried lamb, boiled bananas,
Jamaican cole slaw and asparagus. Yummy to all of that.
Below she is posing with our only surviving brother, Arthur, whom she
dated after High School and all the sisters wished that he would
have married her. That is our wish because simply put ,we know
she would have taken care of him with love. That is every chinese
woman's dream for her son or brother.
Although I had not seen her for over 30 years I felt very comfortable in her
home which was warmly decorated with a feeling of green. She owns a
nursery and has a way with plants so she has created a beautiful garden
like setting both inside and out. She tells you to help yourself to anything
and put your feet up.
She spends 2 hours daily in the summer maintaining
these magnificent gardens which has a bridge and
a gazebo and places to sit and contemplate.
At the end of the day you can watch the Olympics and doze
off randomly as we do these days. This my friends is the epitome
of Chinese Jamaican hospitality.
